People with disabilities face significant challenges in securing full-time employment and Goodwill Omaha is stepping up to help. On March 27, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Goodwill Omaha will host its first-ever combined Resource & Job Fair at its headquarters, 4805 N. 72nd Street, bringing together job seekers and employers committed to inclusivity.

“Employment in one's community is more than just a job—it’s a pathway to inclusion, independence and dignity for people with disabilities,” said Alana Schriver, MPH, Executive Director of the Nebraska Association of Service Providers (NASP). “We must continue to break down barriers and create policies that support competitive, integrated employment.”

The numbers are staggering; In Douglas County, only 15,012 individuals with disabilities worked full-time last year, compared to 207,880 individuals without disabilities. Thousands more are underemployed or unemployed, making this event a critical step toward closing the employment gap. The Resource & Job Fair will feature dozens of local employers and community organizations offering job opportunities, career readiness support and essential services for anyone seeking a job, needing help with resources, or interested in taking the next step toward expanding or changing careers. The event also features organizations that focus on people with disabilities, individuals facing disadvantages and those overcoming employment barriers.

“At Goodwill Omaha, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to build a meaningful career, regardless of the barriers they face,” said Nicole Wilson, Vice President of Mission Advancement at Goodwill Omaha. “By connecting job seekers with employers who value inclusivity, we’re fostering a stronger, more diverse workforce.” Goodwill's Work Experience students—who have disabilities—will lead workshops and presentations designed to help employers understand how to support and advocate for the hiring of individuals with disabilities. Additional offerings include resume building, workplace environments, leadership, and self-advocacy workshops.
